Service

Vitality and high-spiritedness require suitable avenues of expression. In SSAC we urge members to serve the less-fortunate by organizing sports and adventures for underprivileged children and youth, for the aged or for the physically and mentally handicapped. Other forms of service, such as distribution of food, clothes and medicine, disaster relief and rescue, etc. are undertaken in areas where the need for basic requirements overshadows the importance of sports.

Soccerteam in a village near AnandaNagar (West-Bengal)

Since its inception in 1978, SSAC has been trying to help people in rural areas to develop sports skills. In a country struggling with poverty, all energies have been focussed on survival and sports activities have been very much neglected. Sometimes rural development schemes as promoted by Volunteers for Social Service have taken priority.

In the Americas, we have sponsored football (soccer) teams in San Salvador along with primary schools as well as a base-ball team in rural Nicaragua which competed among the best in the country.
